Haley Albrecht Growing up, my dad really sparked my interest in photography, as that was one of his favorites hobbies. I grew up in Sarasota, Florida on a beautiful beach town so there was always something or somewhere to go take photos of. I have many memories of impromptu beach photoshoots and my dad taking pictures of literally everything; so much so I was definitely annoyed at certain moments. He always encouraged me and my sister to take photos and be creative with it. As a result I have so much of my childhood documented which is something I truly cherish and a reason I’m constantly encouraged to keep expanding my photography skills. I love looking back at old memories, past points in my life, and all the good times I’ve had over the years. A lot of the photos I take are in a more spontaneous manner. I normally don’t set out to a certain place for the main reason of taking a photo, although in certain situations I do. Usually, I will just be wherever I happen to be at the moment and see something that catches my eye then go from there. I really enjoy taking portraits of my friends and adding a unique or creative twist. Their reaction is my favorite part; being able to see themselves in a way they never have before. I have my own Canon t5i and that’s the camera I grew up using so I have the most experience with it. Lately I have been really interested in film photography. I would like to dive deeper into this process, so I have been trying to find a good film camera to buy. Photographing cities and nightlife is one of my favorite subject matters. It takes a rather fast paced scenario and pauses it for a second to capture a unique frame. When people are in their own world, whether they are going about their day or dancing like nobody's watching, this is when the most genuine, captivating photos can be taken. I choose the theme “Sea to Sky'' for my portfolio because all of my time for the past three years has been spent exploring this region. I have been lucky enough to be in the most beautiful and fascinating places from Vancouver to Pemberton, I couldn’t pick just one spot. The nature in Whistler and the surrounding areas is truly breathtaking. I certainly could not have been in a better place for photography. During Covid-19 enforced quarantine I’ve spent a lot more time outdoors hiking and adventuring with friends. This has allowed me to take many photos of the scenery. I also love Vancouver dearly and spent a lot of time there before covid-19. I am starting to visit this city again as it is clearing/opening up, with some current restrictions lifting. I am interested to see how much has changed with the new limitations and want to capture this interesting time in history through my eyes as a photographer.
